The Muhlenberg men's basketball team shot 60 percent in the second half en route to an important 82-65 win at Haverford.
The victory put the Mules (8-14, 7-8) into a tie for fifth place with three games remaining in the regular season. They can clinch a Centennial Conference playoff berth with wins in two of their final three games.
Junior
Luke Gordos tied his career high with 22 points, going 9-for-12 from the field to lead four Muhlenberg players in double figures. Senior
Giovanni Rubino scored 17 points, with junior
Jayson Williams-Johnson and freshman
Peter Stanton-Shepherd adding 12 and 11, respectively.
Ahead 31-28 at halftime, the Mules opened the second half on a 10-0 run. They scored on their first four possessions, beginning with a layup by Gordos
(pictured above) and a three by Stanton-Shepherd off an offensive rebound and kickout by senior
Brandon Goldberg.
After a steal by Williams-Johnson, Gordos drove in for a layup-and-one, and a steal by Gordos led to a basket by Goldberg.
Haverford cut the margin to five, but Muhlenberg scored the next five points, capped by a putback by sophomore
Drew Greene, to push the lead back to double digits seven minutes into the second half. The Fords (4-18, 1-14) never got closer than eight points the rest of the game.
Greene finished with 6 points and a team-leading 6 rebounds, while freshman
Liam Gorman scored a career-high 6 points.
