In a game of runs, the Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team opened its 2024 season with a 15-10 loss at Stevenson.
The Mules trailed 5-1 before reeling off eight consecutive goals to open up a 9-5 lead late in the third quarter.
The Mustangs, however, came back with the next six goals to go back on top and held Muhlenberg to just one goal in the fourth quarter.
Freshman
Daniel Friedel scored half of the goals in the 8-0 run, tying for the second-most goals by a first-year player in his first career game in the modern history of the program. A freshman scored 7 goals in the first game of the 2003 season, the program's first after being reinstated, and Friedel is the third to score 4 in his debut since.
Another freshman,
Liam Ledwith, netted a pair of goals in his first college game. Senior
Jack Taub recorded a career-high 3 assists.
Junior
Brendan Lavarra, making his first career start on defense, scooped up 4 ground balls and caused a turnover.
Sophomore
Luke Schwartzberg (pictured above) caused two turnovers for a defense that shut out Stevenson for a span of more than 22 minutes during Muhlenberg's big run.
