The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team finished strong but could not erase all of an eight-goal deficit and fell at Scranton, 13-10.
The loss spoiled a big game for senior
Wyatt Malia, who set a career high with 7 points on 5 goals and 2 assists. The 7 points ran his career total to 104, making him the 11th player in program history to reach the century mark.
The Royals, who in their opening game trailed top-ranked Salisbury by only one goal at halftime, led 9-1 midway through the second quarter. Back-to-back goals by Malia and one by senior
Ryan May cut the gap to 9-4 at the half.
Scranton scored four goals in the first six minutes of the second half to open up a 13-5 lead, but the Mule defense pitched a shutout the rest of the way.
Back-to-back goals by Malia (again) and back-to-back goals by freshman
Jack Bill (the first two goals of his career) made it 13-9 early in the fourth quarter. May scored with 7:43 on the clock to bring the Mules within three, but that would be all the scoring.
Junior
Griffin Minuto had a strong game, tying his career high with 15 faceoff wins. Junior
Brendan Lavarra (pictured above) caused 5 turnovers, tying the most by a Muhlenberg player since 2015, and senior
Aidan Murphy scooped up a career-high 7 ground balls.
