Despite a career-best performance from
Charlie Gillikin, the Muhlenberg men's basketball team fell at Penn State Harrisburg, 80-74.
Gillikin
(pictured above) scored 21 points, topping his previous career best of 17 set in the season-opening win at Rosemont. He shot 7-of-10 from three-point range, missing the school record for threes in a game by one.
Gillikin's final three, with 17.6 seconds left, brought the Mules (3-8) to within 78-74, but the Lions (12-3) hit two free throws on their next possession to put the game out of reach.
Senior
Brandon Goldberg recorded his third straight double-double, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds to go along with a career-high 5 assists. He is the first Muhlenberg player in 12 years with three straight double-doubles.
Two other players scored in double figures for the Mules. Junior
Jayson Williams-Johnson dropped in 15 points, while senior
Giovanni Rubino added 13 to move past 900 points for his career.
Muhlenberg shot 60 percent from three-point range in the first half and led by as many as 10 points, 24-14, midway through the period. Harrisburg closed out the half on a 13-2 run, however, taking a 41-38 lead on a three-pointer at the buzzer.
The Mules trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half. Two threes by Gillikin keyed an 8-0 run that cut a 10-point deficit to two, 65-63, with less than five minutes to play.
