After dropping three straight close games, the Muhlenberg women's basketball team pulled out its first win of 2024, winning 66-60 at McDaniel.
The Mules (9-6, 4-6) led by 10 points early in the fourth quarter, then had to make big plays down the stretch after the Green Terror (10-4, 5-4) cut the margin to one.
Junior
Emily Unger led Muhlenberg with 16 points, while sophomore
Avery McNulty tied her career high of 12. Junior
Ava Connolly added 10 points and junior
Rachel Saxton 9.
The Mules shot 50 percent from the field in the third quarter, scoring 23 points to turn a three-point halftime deficit into a 52-45 lead. Unger hit a three-pointer on Muhlenberg's first possession of the fourth quarter to extend the advantage to double digits.
But the Mules went the next five-plus minutes without scoring, and McDaniel ran off seven straight points to make it 55-52. A Green Terror three-point play with 2:39 left left the score at 58-57.
Muhlenberg answered on the other end with a three-point play of its own, as Unger was fouled while driving in for a lefty layup. After McDaniel closed to within one again on a three-pointer, Connolly hit a pullup baseline jumper to make it 63-60 with just under two minutes left.
At the other end of the court, Connolly stole a pass into the post. The Mules didn't score on their possession, but an offensive rebound by senior
Caroline Horst enabled them to run almost a minute off the clock.
The Green Terror got the ball back with 26 seconds left, still down by three, and turned the ball over. Two free throws by Connolly and one by junior
Jenna Stockfeder secured the win for Muhlenberg.
McNulty
