The Muhlenberg men's basketball team ended the game on a 13-0 run to come back and win at McDaniel, 69-60.
The Green Terror (6-8, 2-6) hit a corner three with 2:52 remaining to extend its lead to 60-56 before the Mules (5-10, 4-4) took over.Â
Senior
Giovanni Rubino made two free throws after getting fouled on a drive to the basket, then two more after getting fouled in the backcourt following a defensive stop. That brought the game to a 60-all tie.
McDaniel called a timeout in the frontcourt with 2:11 to play, but Rubino jumped the passing lane for a steal coming out of the timeout and drove in for the layup that gave Muhlenberg the lead for good.
After another stop, junior
Jayson Williams-Johnson drove baseline and kicked the ball to the corner, where junior
Luke Gordos drilled a three to make it 65-60.
A pair of free throws each by Rubino and freshman
Peter Stanton-Shepherd in the final 30 seconds completed the run. Prior to the four free throws, neither team had led by more than six points in the game.
Rubino finished with a game-high 20 points to run his career total to 983. Stanton-Shepherd
(pictured above) went 4-of-5 from three-point range en route to scoring a career-high 18 points, of which 15 came in the second half.
Gordos netted a season-high 16 points, while senior
Brandon Goldberg came close to a double-double, recording 8 points and 10 rebounds.
