Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Rebounds for First Win

The Muhlenberg men's soccer team scored twice in the second half to pull away for a 3-1 win at Hobart.

Two days after dropping their opener at home to Scranton, the Mules rebounded by capitalizing on rebounds: They scored twice by following up saved shots.

Muhlenberg (1-1) opened the scoring off a corner kick at the 12:58 mark. After sophomore Sebastian Tis forced the Hobart goalie to dive in order to stop a shot from the right, sophomore Elie Khalil one-timed the rebound into the back of the net from the other side of the box.

The Statesmen (1-1) responded to tie the game just 52 seconds later but had a player sent off on a red card with about nine minutes left in the first half. The Mules used their man advantage to control play for most of the second half and finally cashed in twice in the final 20 minutes.

With 19:45 to play, senior Chris Richards took a shot that was saved but not controlled, and again Khalil was there to put home the rebound. It was the first career multiple-goal game for Khalil (pictured above), who netted one goal all of last season.

Sophomore Will Curtis IV provided the insurance with 7:11 to play, taking a well-placed pass from junior Jason Edelstein and touching the ball past the charging goalie and just inside the right post for his first career goal.

The win was the first ever for Muhlenberg against Hobart; the teams had met only once previously, in the 1988 ECAC Tournament semifinals. And the win came at a tough place to be successful. The Statesman have lost only once at home in each of the last three complete seasons.
