The Muhlenberg men's soccer team outlasted Dickinson 1-0 in the rain to notch its first Centennial Conference win of the season.
Both teams entered the game ranked in Region V by United Soccer Coaches, the Mules sixth and the Red Devils seventh. With the win, Muhlenberg (5-1-1, 1-0-1) extended its unbeaten streak to six and posted wins against Dickinson (4-2-1, 0-1-1) in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2003 and 2004.
The lone goal came in the 16th minute after senior
Chris Richards drew a foul near the sideline. The Mules played quickly and passed the ball back to junior
Evan Schlotterbeck, whose long service was flicked by senior
Taylan Akdag to senior
Zack Mikuta, who touched it past a pair of defenders in the box and fired it in.
It was the second career goal for Mikuta
(pictured above) and the first career point for Schlotterbeck. Akdag's assist was the 24th of his career and his fourth in the last four games.
Muhlenberg had a big 16-4 advantage in shots in the first half. The second 45 was more evenly played, with the Red Devils owning a 6-4 edge in shots, but only two of the shots were on goal, and sophomore
Ben Mulford saved both to record his 10th career shutout.
