In its first game as a nationally ranked team, Muhlenberg men's soccer looked every bit the part.
The Mules, ranked 22nd in Division III, rolled up a 24-4 advantage in shots en route to a 3-0 win at Haverford. The shutout extended Muhlenberg's unbeaten streak to seven.
It took the Mules (6-1-1, 2-0-1) almost the whole first half to get their first goal. With just 1:10 remaining, junior
Noah Pietila broke the ice by banging home a cross from sophomore
Trevor Mikuta, who had received a pass out of the back from freshman back
Sam Roberts.
Two other backs, juniors
Evan Schlotterbeck and
Kevin Adams, combined on the second goal, with Adams heading in a free kick from Schlotterbeck in the 68th minute.
The icing came with 3:47 left in the game, when junior
Abraham McWilliams put in the rebound of a saved shot off the foot of sophomore
Sebastian Tis for his first career goal. Pictured above, McWilliams celebrates with Tis.
With the goals from Adams and McWilliams, 11 different players have found the back of the net this season for Muhlenberg.
In addition to contributing to the offense, the defense allowed the Fords (1-2-6, 0-1-2) no corner kicks and only one shot on goal in recording its fourth shutout of the season.
