The Muhlenberg men's soccer team opened its 2023 season with a 1-0 home loss to Scranton in its first game on newly resurfaced Varsity Field.
 
The game matched two teams that won conference championships and played in the NCAA Tournament last year.
 
Muhlenberg had advantages of 10-4 in shots and 7-3 in corner kicks, but the Royals put in the lone goal with 18:36 remaining in the second half.
 
The Mules came closest to scoring early in the second half when a shot by sophomore Sebastian Tis hit the post.
