The Muhlenberg men's soccer team broke out with four second-half goals to topple DeSales, 4-0.
The Mules (3-1) had advantages of 13-1 in shots and 9-1 in corner kicks in the first half but could not find the back of the net. Senior
Chris Richards finally broke the drought 3:49 into the second half when he converted a cross from senior
Taylan Akdag. It was the 31st career goal for Richards, tying him with current assistant coach
Todd Ervin for 10th on the program's all-time list.
That opened the floodgates. In the 64th minute, Akdag fed sophomore
Sebastian Tis (pictured above) for his second career goal, his first for Muhlenberg. Akdag's two assists ran his career total to 22, moving him into a tie for fifth on the Mules' all-time list.
Sophomore
Will Curtis IV netted his second goal of the season off a pass from classmate
Elie Khalil in the 79th minute, and junior
Noah Pietila capped the scoring just 1:47 later after dribbling through the Bulldog defense. Two of Pietila's four goals have come against DeSales (3-1).
That last time the Mules won a shutout of at least 4-0 and scored all their goals in the second half was in 2014 against Wilkes.
Sophomore
Ben Mulford and junior
Aidan Niggeman combined to blank a DeSales squad that scored 20 goals in its first three games.
Muhlenberg finished with a 26-4 edge in shots.
