Softball Swept on Shore

The Muhlenberg softball team dropped a pair of tight, low-scoring games at Washington College, 1-0 and 3-2.

The Mules (12-12, 3-3) managed only two hits and did not get a runner past second base in the opener. The only run for the Shorewomen (12-14-1, 4-1-1) came in the third and was unearned.

Junior Raya Kunes took a tough loss, tossing a three-hitter and striking out six.

Muhlenberg scored its first run of the day in the opening inning of the nightcap, when junior Sophia Cicchetti led off with a single, was sacrificed to second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.

Washington responded with two runs in the second and one in the third. 

The score remained 3-1 into the seventh, when freshman Maddy Svenningsen (pictured above) led off with her first career home run to cut the deficit in half. The next three batters made out, however.

Senior Sara Fallon and junior Sabrina Reichelt had a pair of hits apiece in the second game.
