In perhaps the longest game in program history, the Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team won at McDaniel, 17-7.
The teams started at 1:00 in the afternoon, and after the Mules took a 3-0 lead 5:38 following the opening draw, the game was halted due to lightning. With the storm persisting, the teams did not resume until 7:00 at night, finally finishing the game more than seven-and-a-half hours after it started.
The wait was worth it for the Mules (11-3, 4-3), who with the win moved into sole possession of fourth place in the Centennial Conference with one week remaining in the regular season. Depending on other results, Muhlenberg could clinch a playoff berth with a home win on Wednesday against Ursinus.
Senior
Samantha Eynon scored a career-high 7 goals, the most by a Mule in five years. Junior
Nicole Steiner also recorded a hat trick with 4 goals, while freshman
Ava Milia and junior
Lily Seifert netted a pair apiece.
The Green Terror (4-10, 1-6) scored the first goal after the restart, but two goals was as close as Muhlenberg would let the home team get.
It was 4-2 with four minutes left in the first quarter before the Mules went on a 6-0 run to open up a commanding 10-2 lead. Seifert scored the first goal of the run and assisted senior
Emily Gaffney and freshman
Abba Diglio on two others.
Eynon scored three times in a 5-0 second-half run that gave Muhlenberg its biggest lead, 17-5.
Sophomore
Emily Vaughan recorded a game-high 10 draw controls, becoming only the third player in program history to reach double digits in a game more than once. Vaughan (pictured above) and sophomore
Jillian Kubikowski, who pulled in 10 draw controls against Swarthmore in the Mules' last game, are only the second pair of Mule teammates to hit double digits in the same season.
Freshman
Meaghan Haughney made a career-high 8 saves while allowing just 5 goals to improve to 3-0 as a starter.
The Mules, who are scheduled to end the regular season with two home games, set a school record with their sixth road win of the season.
