The Muhlenberg baseball team extended its winning streak to three with a 7-3 home win against Dickinson.
Junior
Ryan Friesen and freshman
Evan Virno combined on a five-hitter against the Red Devils (17-9-1, 5-2), who came into the game tied for first place in the Centennial Conference and average a CC-leading 10.67 runs in their first six league games.Â
Three days after his offensive heroics contributed to a
doubleheader sweep of Gettysburg, Friesen came back with the best pitching performance of his career. He completed eight innings, blowing past his previous career high of five, and struck out a career-high 7 batters. Friesen gave up one run in the second and two in the fifth, but in his other six innings he faced only two batters over the minimum. The second through fourth hitters in the Dickinson lineup were a combined 0-for-11 against Friesen.
Virno pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out one.
The Mules (12-13-1, 5-2) answered both times Dickinson scored in the top of the inning. Sophomore
Brendan Hughes and senior
Caleb Tereska hit back-to-back doubles to begin the bottom of the second, and junior
Jake Braet followed with an RBI single to give Muhlenberg a 2-1 lead.
After the Red Devils went back ahead 3-2 in the top of the fifth, senior
Jake Swerdloff led off the bottom of the fifth with a double. Sophomore
Aidan Legner (pictured above)Â drove him in with a booming triple to deep center, and senior
Christian Schwarz brought in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.
Junior
Jack Kent gave the Mules some insurance with an RBI single in the seventh, and Hughes led off the eighth with his second home run of the season.
Muhlenberg is 5-2 or better through seven CC games for only the third time in history. The Mules started 6-1 in 2006 and 5-2 in 2016.
