For the second straight day, the Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team remained undefeated with a big win.
A day after posting a 20-3 win at Delaware Valley, the Mules (5-0) returned home to defeat DeSales, 16-3.
Senior
Samantha Eynon and junior
Nicole Steiner scored 4 goals apiece to help Muhlenberg to its third consecutive win by more than 10 goals. The Mules have held an 11-1 lead in each of the three games.
Six different players netted the first six goals, which came in bunches. After a scoreless first four minutes, senior
Emily Gaffney, Steiner and Eynon all scored in a span of 76 seconds for a 3-0 lead.
Midway through the quarter, junior
Lily Seifert and sophomores
Emily Vaughan and
Jillian Kubikowski scored in a span of 38 seconds to double the lead to 6-0.
Seifert and Eynon found the back of the net 26 seconds apart later in the first quarter to make it 9-0, and the Mules would eventually lead 11-0 before the Bulldogs (2-2) cracked the scoreboard.
Muhlenberg's defense was outstanding in the first quarter, holding DeSales to one shot even though each team controlled five draws. The Mules forced 10 turnovers in the opening 15 minutes, including two on possession clock violations.
Freshman
Meaghan Haughney played most of the second half in goal and made a career-high 7 saves.
Kubikowski had a fine all-around game with 2 goals, 5 draw controls and 2 caused turnovers.
