Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Pulls Away from Scranton

The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team broke away from a close game with a 6-0 run and went on to defeat Scranton, 17-13.

Senior Jason Metz (6) and junior Wyatt Malia (5) both recorded career high in goals for the Mules (3-2), who received 18 votes in the USILA Division III poll this week.

Muhlenberg never trailed, but the game was tight throughout the first half. The Royals (2-3) were within two goals, at 9-7 with a minute to play in the opening half.

Senior Jack Kraemer made it 10-7 with the first of his two goals with just 13 seconds on the clock. The Mules then scored the first five goals of the second half to open up a commanding 15-7 lead. Malia scored two of the goals, Kraemer put in a rebound for another, and senior preseason All-American James Dalimonte, who had been sidelined with an injury, netted his first two goals of the season 67 seconds apart.

Scranton took the first two shots of the third quarter, but Muhlenberg took the next 16. The Mule defense forced turnovers on five straight Royal possessions, and the offense capitalized.

Metz (pictured above), who came into the game with 3 goals this season and 9 for his career, was on fire from the start, completing a hat trick in the first quarter and adding two more goals in the second. He became only the seventh different Muhlenberg player since the program's reinstatement in 2003 to score 6 goals in a game. Malia netted his 5 goals on only 6 shots.

Michael Drago had the best game of his career at the X, winning 17 of 31 faceoffs and picking up 13 ground balls, tying the second-most ever by a Muhlenberg freshman. The 17 faceoff wins tied the school record for a freshman.

Junior Matthew Regan led the defense with 4 ground balls.
