Sophomore
Andrew Sellitto scored his second goal of the game 40 seconds into the second overtime to give the Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team a thrilling 10-9 win against St. John Fisher.
The win was the first for the Mules (4-2) in a multiple-overtime game since 2009 and their first in any overtime contest since 2013. And it came against a St. John Fisher team that advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament last year.
Muhlenberg trailed 7-4 early in the third quarter but stormed back with four straight goals. Sellitto's first goal came on an extra-man opportunity with 1:57 left in the third and tied the score at 7-7. Senior
Jack Kraemer found the back of the net just before time expired in the quarter to give the Mules their first lead of the game, at 8-7.
The Cardinals (0-3) drew even at the 10:17 mark of the fourth quarter, but Muhlenberg regained the lead off the ensuing faceoff, with sophomore
Matthew Hochegger feeding senior
Aidan Murphy for his first career goal.
St. John Fisher evened the score at 9-9 with 4:25 left in regulation.
The Cardinals won the ensuing faceoff and took two shots with a chance to go ahead, but senior
Max May saved them both. Muhlenberg had an extra-man opportunity in the final two minutes but could not capitalize, and the game went to overtime.
After May made another save early in the first extra period, the Mules were flagged for a penalty. The man-down unit stepped up and kept the Cardinals from taking a shot on goal, eventually forcing a possession clock violation and sending the game to a second overtime
Freshman
Michael Drago won the opening face of the second overtime, and after a Mule timeout, graduate student
Ethan Grossman set up Sellitto for the winner.
Senior
Jason Metz scored two goals in the second quarter and one in the third for his second straight hat trick. The two goals scored by Kraemer
(pictured above) gave him 90 career points.
May finished with 11 saves, with 7 of them coming in the second half and overtimes. Graduate student
Jonathan Taub (3) and senior
Connor Riebling (2) combined to force 5 turnovers.
