The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team went through a long scoreless drought and fell at Rensselaer, 11-6, in its first road game of the season.
The two teams entered the game just three spots apart in the USILA Division III poll, with the Mules (2-2) ranked 18th and the Engineers (3-1) getting the most votes among teams not in the top 20.
Muhlenberg led 3-2 with 4:49 left in the first quarter after junior
Wyatt Malia scored his second goal. RPI reeled off the next eight goals, however, to open up a commanding 10-3 lead. The Mules went dry for more than 30 minutes of game time until senior
Jack Kraemer scored with 4:47 left in the third.
The Mules had a 23-12 advantage in shots in the second half but could not make up their deficit.
Malia
(pictured above) added a third goal in the final period for his seventh career hat trick. Junior
Jack Quinn scored a pair of man-up goals.
Junior
Matthew Regan led the defense with 5 ground balls, while graduate student
Jonathan Taub caused a pair of turnovers and scooped up 3 ground balls. Senior
Max May made 14 saves in goal.
