Women's Basketball Earns Big Road Win

The Muhlenberg women's basketball team picked up a big road victory, winning 56-47 at Franklin & Marshall.

With two games remaining in the regular season, the Mules (11-12, 10-8) solidified their hold on a Centennial Conference playoff berth. They have a one-game lead over sixth-place Swarthmore, a two-game edge on seventh-place Washington, and need to win only one of their final two games to clinch a spot in the six-team playoffs.

The Mules were led at F&M by the two-headed monster of sophomore Ava Connolly and graduate student Margaux Eripret, who combined to score 39 of their 56 points – including 17 of 19 in the fourth quarter.

Connolly scored a career-high 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, while Eripret added 19 to surpass the milestone of 900 career points.

Muhlenberg overcame an early five-point deficit to take the lead for the good at 17-15 on a pair of free throws by sophomore Rachel Saxton with 48 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Diplomats (9-14, 6-12) kept it close, closing to within one point three times in the second quarter, but could never quite catch up.

The Mules took their biggest lead at 49-40 with just under four minutes to play in the game. F&M responded by scoring the next six points to cut the gap to three. With less than a minute to go and the shot clock winding down, Eripret swished a three from the wing for the dagger.

Connolly (pictured above) and sophomore Emily Vaughan combined to make four straight free throws down the stretch to keep the lead safe.

Eripret added 10 rebounds to her 19 points for her eighth double-double of the season.
