The Muhlenberg men's wrestling team opened its home schedule with a 27-19 win against Delaware Valley.
The Mules (2-0) also competed in a non-scoring scramble against The College of New Jersey.
Muhlenberg trailed Delaware Valley 13-9 through five bouts before winning four straight at the upper weights. Senior
Riley McHale started with a first-period pin, a junior All-American
Anson Dewar improved to 17-0 in duals over the last two seasons with a 7-3 decision in his season debut.
Now ahead 18-13, the Mules extended their margin to 24-13 when sophomore
Ryan Fairchild launched a massive headlock to pin his opponent, who is ranked fifth at 174 in the Southeast Region, with about a minute to go in the first period.
That brought the match to senior 197-pounder
Paul Parise, who last year scored a sudden victory to clinch the Mules' 20-19 win against Delaware Valley. It wasn't quite as close this time, but Parise
(pictured above) again won in overtime to give Muhlenberg an insurmountable lead.
Senior All-American
Joey Lamparelli started the match by needing less than a period to rack up a 15-0 lead for a technical fall in his season debut. It was his 10th career tech; only one wrestler in program history has more.
Freshman
Evan Mendez scored a major decision in his home debut.
Highlights of the TCNJ match included freshman
Jace Yannucciello notching the first two wins of his career and freshman
Andrew Loniewski reversing his opponent twice in the third period for a 4-3 decision.
