The Muhlenberg men's basketball team rode hot first-half shooting to a season-opening 86-64 win at Rosemont.
The Mules shot 8-of-12 from three-point range in the first 20 minutes, building a 20-point lead at the break. They stretched their advantage to 26 in the second half en route to their second 20-plus-point win in an opener in the last three seasons.
Four of the five Muhlenberg starters scored in double figures, led by junior
Charlie Gillikin with a career-high 17 points. Gillikin made his first three three-point attempts and netted 14 of his points in the first half alone.
Junior
Jayson Williams-Johnson finished with 16 points, and seniors
Giovanni Rubino and
Brandon Goldberg added 14 and 12, respectively.
The Mules' fifth starter, junior
Luke Gordos, filled the stat sheet with 6 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Two of his points came on a dunk off a steal in the second half.
Muhlenberg led 10-0 a little more than three minutes into the game and maintained a double-digit margin for the final 32-plus minutes of the game.
A pair of sophomores set career highs in points, with
Drew Greene (pictured above) netting 7 and
Nate Hoffman, who scored 4 points all last season, adding 8.
