The Muhlenberg football team finished the first half of its season undefeated, breezing to a 50-6 home win against McDaniel.
Junior
Joe Repetti tied the school record of six touchdowns in a game, passing for five and running for one, as the 17th-ranked Mules (5-0, 2-0) took advantage of Green Terror mistakes to open up a 37-0 lead in the second quarter.Â
The defense allowed only 199 total yards, including just 23 on 34 rushing attempts. McDaniel (0-5, 0-2) netted only 12 total yards on its first seven drives before scoring its lone touchdown late in the first half.
For the second time this season, senior tight ends
James Nye and
Matt McKenna each scored multiple touchdowns. Nye caught four passes for 101 yards and a pair of scores in his fourth career 100-yard game, while McKenna
(pictured above) also hauled in a pair of scores.
Muhlenberg scored its first touchdown midway through the first quarter after a fumbled snap on a punt attempt forced the Green Terror punter to run with the ball. He was tackled by junior
Michael Dotro well short of the first down, and just four plays later, Repetti ran into the end zone from 15 yards out, finishing off his run with a nifty spin move.
The Mules doubled their lead on their next drive, with Repetti combining with Nye on a 40-yard pass play for the first of his five touchdown passes.
McKenna's 17-yard touchdown reception made it 21-0 early in the second quarter, and on the ensuing kickoff, the Green Terror returner slipped on the wet turf at the 2-yard line. On the next play, the snap went through the hands of the McDaniel quarterback and into the hands of the running back, who was tripped up by senior
Isaiah Lobelo in the end zone for a safety - Muhlenberg's third safety of the season.
The Mules scored off the ensuing free kick, with Repetti throwing a deep ball to freshman
Wes Hack on fourth-and-1 for a 40-yard touchdown. It was the first career TD for Hack.
On the next possession, a bad snap on a punt forced the Green Terror punter to fall on the ball at the Mule 5. Repetti hit McKenna in the end zone on the next play to make it 37-0.
A 44-yard touchdown pass from Repetti to Nye and a 34-yard touchdown run by sophomore
Bryson Perryman in the second half enabled Muhlenberg to hit the 50-point mark for the second time this season.
Repetti completed passes to nine different receivers and finished 15-of-22 for 226 yards, surpassing 4,000 passing yards for his career.Â
Lobelo finished with a career-high 11 tackles, while graduate student
Dominick Visintin and senior
Matt Papa each recorded 2½ tackles for loss. Seven different players combined for the Mules' six sacks, and senior
Josh Ferro forced a fumble that Muhlenberg recovered.
