The Muhlenberg women's basketball team recorded its biggest win of the season, coming from behind to defeat 2022 playoff qualifier Washington College, 70-64.
Graduate student
Margaux Eripret led the Mules (7-7, 6-3) by scoring 22 points and tying a career high with 13 rebounds. She has three 13-rebound games in her career, all against Washington College. Sophomore
Ava Connolly scored 14 points, including seven straight down the stretch, and junior
Abigail Scheidel added a career-high 13.
Neither team led by more than five points in the first half, which ended with Washington (10-5, 6-4) holding a 33-32 lead.Â
The third quarter was similarly tight. The Mules went on a 7-0 run, all off of turnovers, to take a 51-46 lead late in the quarter. Eripret scored after a steal by junior
Caroline Horst, and consecutive steals by sophomore
Jenna Stockfeder led to a layup and three by Connolly.
The Shorewomen came back, however, to take a three-point lead in the fourth quarter. A three-pointer by sophomore
Emily Unger tied the score with 3:11 remaining, and an exchange of baskets left the score tied for the 12th time, at 61-all, with less than two minutes to play.
Connolly untied it with a three at the 1:25 mark, then made four straight free throws in the final 50 seconds to give the Mules a 68-64 edge. Scheidel
(pictured above)Â added a pair of free throws to account for the final margin.
Muhlenberg held the Shorewomen to two field goals in the final 3:30, ending the game on a 14-5 run.
The 70 points were the most allowed this season in a Centennial Conference game by the Shorewomen, who came in second in the CC and 35th in Division III in field-goal percentage defense.
Unger finished with 9 points, and sophomore
Rachel Saxton came off the bench to score 7.Â
