The Muhlenberg men's basketball team built a 25-point halftime lead and went on to a 90-63 win at Washington College.
With the victory, the Mules (10-5, 5-3) moved into a tie for third place in the Centennial Conference and surpassed their win total from all of last season.
Four Muhlenberg players scored in double figures, led by junior
Giovanni Rubino with 17. Junior
Brandon Goldberg and sophomore
Charlie Gillikin scored 14 apiece, and graduate student
Dan Gaines added 10.
Goldberg scored his 14 points (one short of his career high) on 5-of-5 shooting from the field. He and senior
Justin Allen, the Mules' other primary big man, combined to go 8-for-8.
Rubino
(pictured above) scored Muhlenberg's first nine points of the game, and a three by Gillikin helped stake the Mules to a 12-9 lead 4:30 into the game. An 11-0 run, capped by a three-point play by sophomore
Jayson Williams-Johnson, extended the margin to 14, and the Shoremen (2-12, 1-7) never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Already up 41-27 with 4:30 remaining, Muhlenberg closed the first half on a 12-1 run to turn the game into a runaway. The margin swelled to as many as 39 points in the second half.
The Mules shot 54.0 percent for the game in hitting the 90-point mark for the first time this season.
Gillikin made a layup with 7:32 left in the second half for his first two-point basket of the season. His first 37 field goals were all three-pointers.
