The Muhlenberg men's basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game and went on to an 84-68 home win against Dickinson.
Graduate student
Dan Gaines led three Mules in double figures with 26 points, adding 11 rebounds to tie a career high. Junior
Giovanni Rubino scored 18, and sophomore
Jayson Williams-Johnson (pictured above) came off the bench to tally 11.Â
The Red Devils (3-11, 1-6) came back from the early deficit to tie the game at 19-19 with a 12-0 run, capped by a dunk on a fast break with 8:31 left in the first half. But the Mules (9-5, 4-3) held Dickinson without a field goal for the next six-and-a-half minutes and eventually built their lead back to double digits, at 34-24, in the closing minute of the half.
A pair of threes by Rubino in the first three minutes of the second half helped Muhlenberg extend its lead to 14. Dickinson closed to within eight at one point but never seriously threatened as the Mules shot 51.6 percent from the field in the second half.
Sophomore
Charlie Gillikin scored 9 points, and junior
Tommy McGuire added 8 on perfect 3-for-3 shooting. Junior
Brandon Goldberg pulled down 10 rebounds to help the Mules to a 42-30 advantage on the boards.
Gaines also had 4 assists to move into third place on the Mules' all-time list with 325 for his career. The points-rebounds double-double was the second of his career; the first came back in 2018 in his second game as a Mule. Gaines also has one points-assists double-double.
