The Muhlenberg field hockey team came back twice before falling to DeSales, 3-2 in overtime, in its home opener.
It was the fourth time in the last five games, dating back to last season, that the Mules went into overtime. They hadn't started a season with two straight overtime games since 2009.Â
The Bulldogs (2-0) held a 1-0 lead and a big advantage in shots until the final minute of the first half, when junior
Katie Raab converted a pass from sophomore
Zabelle Aslanian off a penalty corner. It was the second goal in as many games for Raab, who already is halfway to her total from last season.Â
DeSales needed just 18 seconds to regain a one-goal lead at the start of the second half, and once again Muhlenberg tied the score off a penalty corner in the final minute. This time it was freshman
Abba Diglio (pictured above)Â tipping in a blast by junior
Nicole Randazza from the top of the circle with 41 seconds on the clock for her first career goal.
As she did in Thursday's opener at Scranton, sophomore
Grace Leard made a tough save in the final minutes of regulation to preserve the tie. But DeSales ended the game on a rebound goal 4:18 into the first extra period.
