Field Hockey Rallies to Beat FDU

The Muhlenberg field hockey team came back from an early deficit to defeat FDU-Florham, 3-1.

The Devils (2-3) scored their goal with 6:05 left in the first quarter, but the damage could have been worse if not for the outstanding job the Mules (2-3) did in defending penalty corners. FDU-Florham took eight penalty corners in the first 15 minutes but netted only the one goal.

Muhlenberg drew even off a penalty corner with 1:26 left in the first half when junior Nicole Randazza blasted in a shot from the wing off a penalty corner for her second career goal.

The Mules took their first lead midway through the third quarter on a transition goal. Sophomore Erin Jackson sent a long pass down the center of the field for freshman Abba Diglio, who had streaked past the FDU defense and beat the goalie.

The same duo combined for an insurance score 3:38 later. Jackson's shot off a penalty corner was saved, but the rebound came right to Diglio, who deposited the ball in the cage. Pictured above is Diglio (center) celebrating with Jackson (left) and junior Paige Goldberg.

It was the second time in eight days that Diglio, who leads the Mules with five goals, scored twice in a span of less than five minutes. She had a decent chance at a hat trick in the final minute of the third quarter, but her shot was saved.

After allowing eight penalty corners and six shots in the first quarter, the Mule defense allowed only seven corners and six shots the remainder of the game. Muhlenberg had a 14-5 advantage in shots in the second half.
