The Muhlenberg field hockey team took a strong Scranton team to overtime in its 2022 season opener.
The Royals, who went 18-2 last year and received votes in the Division III preseason poll, scored on a penalty stroke 3:30 into the first extra period to pull out a 2-1 win.
Junior
Katie Raab opened the scoring off a penalty corner just 2:02 into the second half, taking the insertion from senior
Mallory Holson and reverse sweeping the ball into the cage from the top of the circle. RaabÂ
(pictured above) earned the corner for the Mules after tackling the ball away from a Scranton player.Â
Scranton tied the score late in the third quarter, and the game remained knotted through the final period thanks to the work of sophomore
Grace Leard, who made a career-high 10 saves, including three in the last two minutes of regulation.Â
