The Muhlenberg baseball team scored nine runs in the fifth inning and went on to win at Haverford, 14-4.
The Mules (13-16, 2-9) were already up 2-0 before sending 14 batters to the plate in their biggest inning of the season. They had only four hits in the frame but took advantage of two errors, four hit batters (one with the bases loaded) and two walks (one with the bases loaded).
Seniors
Trevor Virno and
Danny Monzo hit two-run singles in the inning, while junior
Caleb Tereska and sophomore
Nick Belli had RBI hits.
Tereska was also involved in Muhlenberg's first two runs, scoring on a single by senior
Thomas Rodgers in the second and driving in Monzo in the fourth, and finished the game 3-for-6 for his sixth multiple-hit game in the last 10. Tereska also made a diving catch in right field in the bottom of the fifth to rob a Haverford hitter.
Junior
Ben Kollender
(pictured above) put the finishing touches on the scoring by hitting his first career home run, a three-run blast that sailed well over the fence in left, in the sixth.
Senior
Will Nomura pitched the first six innings for the Mules, allowing only one earned run in improving to 3-0 on the season. Freshman
Brendan Hughes struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth, two looking, to wrap up the win.
