The Muhlenberg baseball team couldn't carry forward the momentum of its first Centennial Conference win and dropped a pair of games at Washington College.
Less than 24 hours and one long bus ride after their 13-inning win against Ursinus, the Mules (12-16, 1-9) fell 5-4 and 18-4.
The opening game was tied 2-2 before Washington scored twice in the seventh and once in the eighth. A bases-loaded single by senior
Trevor Virno in the top of the ninth got Muhlenberg to within a run and put the tying run on third, but the game ended on a 1-6-3 double play.
Virno (pictured above) had three hits, including a double, in the opener, while senior
Ryan Gilbert notched his third consecutive two-hit game (a streak that would end in the nightcap). Sophomore
Jonathan Toth hit a sacrifice fly in the first for his team-leading 28th RBI of the season.
In the nightcap, the Shoremen (18-11, 4-4) scored multiple runs in four consecutive innings to build a big lead. Muhlenberg scored all four of its runs in the seventh, with sophomore
Jake Braet and junior
Ben Kollender hitting RBI singles.
Sophomore
Joe Mattes pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
