The Muhlenberg men's basketball team erased a double-digit second-half deficit before eventually falling at Haverford, 85-74.
The Fords (12-9, 8-6) led 48-37 a little more than two minutes into the second half before the Mules (7-15, 4-11) began clawing back. They were within three, at 52-49, but Haverford built its lead back up to 11, 65-54 with 8:55 to play.
Back came Muhlenberg again. Seven straight points on back-to-back baskets by sophomore
Giovanni Rubino and a three by junior
Tommy McGuire made it a four-point game. Two free throws by Rubino cut the gap to two, and a pair of free throws by freshman
Luke Gordos finally brought the Mules even at 69-all with 4:21 to play.
After an exchange of baskets knotted the score at 71, the Fords scored three points on each of three consecutive possessions - two on shots from behind the arc and one on a traditional three-point play - to build their lead back up to nine, and there wasn't time for another Mule comeback.
Rubino scored a career-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. Senior
Noah Watson (pictured above) filled the stat sheet with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.Â
Senior
Dallas Hoffman returned from injury to score 11 points on 3-of-5 three-point shooting, and sophomore
Brandon Goldberg pulled down a career-high 9 rebounds.
