The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team opened its 2022 season with a 19-9 loss at defending national champion RIT.
The game, and season, started well enough, with graduate student
Matt Burke winning the opening faceoff and scoring just 9 seconds after the opening whistle.
RIT netted the next four goals, however, and gradually pulled away.
Muhlenberg trailed only 7-4 in the second quarter after back-to-back goals by sophomore
Wyatt Malia, but the Engineers scored three in a row to take a 10-4 lead.
Junior
Max May had a sensational game in goal, making 23 saves - most by a Mule since 2010 and the most by a Mule in a regulation game since 2009. His previous career high was 15.
Malia finished with three goals for his second career hat trick. Junior
James Dalimonte added a pair in his first game with the Mules since 2020.
Burke finished 18-of-32 on faceoffs and picked up 8 ground balls. Senior
Maxwell Seeber also scooped 8 ground balls, one short of his career high.
Sophomore
Brandon Caslow scored his first career goal.
