The Muhlenberg women's basketball team started strong and never let up, opening the 2022-23 season with a 68-60 win at Hartwick.
Sophomore
Emily Unger tied a career high with 16 points for the Mules, while graduate student Marguax Eripret recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Muhlenberg scored 26 points, going 5-for-10 from three-point range, in the first quarter. The Mules trailed 11-10 a little more than four minutes into the game before closing the quarter on a 16-7 run that began and ended with threes by Unger
(pictured above). Sophomore
Emily Vaughan also connected from downtown in the run.
Unger, whose older sister Caitie Unger plays for Hartwick, scored 12 of her 16 points in the first quarter alone on 4-for-4 three-point shooting. Although she cooled off in the final three quarters, Muhlenberg had plenty of other sources of offense to keep the Hawks (0-3) at bay.
The first career points for freshman
Avery McNulty, on a jumper two minutes into the second quarter, gave the Mules a double-digit lead for the first time at 29-18. Hartwick closed to within two twice before halftime, but Muhlenberg responded both times, first on a putback by sophomore
Ava Connolly and the second on Unger's layup.
The Mules never led by fewer than five points in the second half, building their bulge to as many as 18 points.
Connolly tied her career high with 8 points, as did sophomore
Jenna Stockfeder. In addition to McNulty, freshman
Mia Fitzgerald also scored her first career points.
Muhlenberg forced 21 turnovers while committing only 8.
