The Muhlenberg men's soccer team opened up a two-goal lead before settling for a 3-3 tie at Ursinus.
On a day when three of the five Centennial Conference games ended in draws, the result left the Mules (6-5-4, 3-1-3) in a tie for third place in the CC with two games remaining in the regular season. They face nationally ranked Johns Hopkins, one of two teams tied for first, in their Senior Day home finale on Saturday.
The top-scoring team in the CC, Muhlenberg netted three first-half goals for the second straight game. Junior
Zack Mikuta opened the scoring in the 26th minute by making a run from the back and converting a through ball from senior
Taylan Akdag for his first career goal.
Akdag made it 2-0 just 65 seconds later, picking up a loose ball in the box and blasting it into the net for his 16th career goal.
After the Bears (3-8-3, 0-6-1) got one goal back, the Mules extended their lead back to two in the last few minutes of the half, with sophomore
Jake Mendelson (pictured above) feeding classmate
Jason Edelstein, who scored a goal for the second straight game.
Ursinus scored five minutes into the second half to close to within one and tied the score in the 74th minute.
The wild second half featured missed penalty kicks by both sides.
