The Muhlenberg women's basketball team erased an 11-point second-half deficit before eventually falling at Franklin & Marshall, 55-49, in its first game of 2022.
The Mules (5-5, 1-4) trailed 32-28 at halftime and saw the margin swell to double digits when the Diplomats (5-6, 3-3) netted the first seven points of the second half. It was 41-30 at the midway point of the third quarter before Muhlenberg scored 10 straight points, sparked by back-to-back threes from freshmen
Rachel Saxton and
Emily Unger, to head into the final period down by just a point.
A layup by senior
Margaux Eripret in the first minute of the fourth quarter gave the Mules a one-point lead, and after the Diplomats reclaimed the lead, senior
Amanda Gorski tied the game at 47 with a three-point play at the 5:28 mark.
Muhlenberg made only one field goal the rest of the way, however, and F&M pulled away for the win.
Unger
(pictured above) scored 14 points in her first career start for the Mules, who were playing without two of their three leading scorers. Eripret finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds, while Gorski pulled down 8 rebounds and tied a career high with 3 blocked shots for the second straight game.
