Despite career-best scoring performances from two players, the Muhlenberg men's basketball team fell at Gettysburg, 73-57.
Although the margin was about the same, the Mules (6-12, 3-8) had a much better showing than when they played the Bullets (11-7, 7-5) four days ago. In that game, Muhlenberg fell behind 17-2 and was never in it, eventually losing 63-48.
The Mules led for a good portion of the rematch. A 10-0 run, featuring five points each from senior
Noah Watson and sophomore
Giovanni Rubino, gave Muhlenberg a 31-22 lead with less than two minutes to play in the first half.Â
Freshman
Luke Gordos drove in for a layup with 16:05 to play in the second half to make it 39-32, but Gettysburg scored the next seven points to tie the score.Â
The teams seesawed back and forth before the Bullets took the lead for good at 46-45 midway through the half. It was still a five-point game with under five minutes to play, but Gettysburg made six straight field-goal attempts in a 12-2 run that made the lead insurmountable.Â
Rubino scored a career-high 20 points, becoming the fifth different Mule with a 20-point game this season. Gordos
(pictured above) finished with a career-best 11 points.
