The Muhlenberg volleyball team staged incredible comebacks in the third and fourth sets to defeat Hunter in the first of two matches at Stevens.
The Mules dropped their second match in three sets to 2019 NCAA regional finalist Stevens for their first loss of the season.
Muhlenberg split its first two sets against Hunter and found itself trailing in the third, 21-13, after the Hawks scored five straight points. It was 24-20 before the Mules fought off four set points and closed out the set on a 6-0 run to pull out a dramatic 26-24 win. Four different players - sophomores
Isabella Pontrelli and
Alyssa Faville and freshmen
Brooke Shiver and
Rachel Jacobs - recorded kills in the set-ending run, all assisted by freshman
Kelsey Miller. Faville, whose kill ended the set, also notched an ace.
The fourth set played out similarly, with Hunter jumping out to a 10-3 lead. The Mules began their comeback at 20-15, going on a 6-0 run behind the serving and setting of junior
Emma Eglinton, to take a 21-20 edge. A kill by senior
Megan Ray made it 22-21, and Muhlenberg scored its final three points on Hunter attack errors to close out the match with a 25-23 win.
Sophomore
Christina Dalton led a balanced Mule attack with 10 kills. Eglinton
(pictured above) finished with a double-double of 21 assists and 12 digs, while Faville recorded career highs of 26 digs and 6 assists.
Freshman
Esmae Oehler (7 kills) and Faville (17 digs) led Muhlenberg statistically against Stevens, which has yet to lose a set in three matches this season.
