To beat the Royals, the Muhlenberg men's soccer team turned to its King.
Junior
Greyson King scored the first two goals of his career less than 11 minutes apart in the first half to give the Mules a season-opening 2-0 win at Scranton.
Incredibly, it was the first time in program history that the Mules opened their season with a shutout on an opponents' home field. The Muhlenberg program dates back to 1943. In their last complete season, 2019, the Royals did not lose a home game by more than one goal.
King broke the ice at the 30:53 mark after junior
Chris Richards played a pass towards the middle of the box. The ball bounced off the post and right to King, who buried it.
With less than four minutes left in the half, King
(pictured above) struck again, taking a pass from sophomore
Zack Mikuta at the top of the box and beating the Scranton keeper with a shot to the top-left corner. It was the first career point for Mikuta.
Junior
Brendan Duffy made four saves in his first career start to preserve the historic shutout.
