The Muhlenberg baseball team split a doubleheader at Ursinus, winning the first game, 3-1, before dropping the nightcap, 7-4.
In the opener, junior
Will Nomura tossed a complete-game four-hitter in just his second career start. The righty allowed just one unearned run, which scored without the benefit of a hit, walked none and struck out five. Nomura
(pictured above)Â took a two-hitter into the seventh. The Bears (7-8, 7-7) got two hits in their final at-bat, but Nomura finished off the game with a popout and a groundout.
The Mules (6-8, 5-7) came from behind to win, tying the game in the fifth on an RBI single by junior
Ryan Hebert and winning it with two in the top of the seventh.
With one out in the seventh, junior
Trevor Virno hit a popup that the Ursinus second baseman lost in the sun. The ball fell in for a hit, and freshman
Jonathan Toth, after falling behind 0-2, followed with another single. Freshman
Jake Braet singled to bring home Virno with the go-ahead run, and Hebert added some insurance with a sacrifice fly.
Muhlenberg took two two-run leads in the nightcap, but Ursinus came back to win, the big blow being a three-run homer in the fifth.
Seniors
Skyler Petrie (double) and
Cameron Miller (groundout) drove in runs in the top of the first. Toth hit an RBI single in the fourth, and junior
Danny Monzo knocked in a run with a double in the fifth.
Hebert went 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs in the second game.
