Men's Lax Drops Home Finale in 2OT

The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team played a thriller in its final home game of the season, falling 13-12 in double overtime to 15th-ranked Ursinus.

The Bears (3-2, 3-2), who are the defending Centennial Conference champions, scored the tying goal with 12.8 seconds left in regulation and the winner 49 seconds into the second extra period.

Muhlenberg (3-4, 3-2) had its three-game winning streak snapped. The Mules' four losses this season are by a total of five goals, three to teams ranked in the top 15 in Division III.

Senior Ethan Grossman scored three goals, setting a school record with his 19th career hat trick. Junior Matt Marrella also netted three goals for his second hat trick.

The Mules trailed 5-3 before closing out the half on a 5-0 run. Sophomore defensive middie Andrew Sokolowski netted his a goal for the third straight game to put Muhlenberg ahead, and senior Matt Burke won the ensuing faceoff and went straight to goal, giving Muhlenberg two scores seven seconds apart. Marrella's third goal capped the surge.

Ursinus stymied the Muhlenberg offense in the third quarter, however, going on a 5-0 run of its own to take a two-goal lead entering the final period.

The Mules trailed 11-10 before Sokolowski went the length of the field to tie the game with 4:39 left. Sophomore Dominick Visintin drew a tripping penalty on the next possession, then fed sophomore Jack Kraemer (pictured above) for the go-ahead goal - one of three man-up goals for Muhlenberg - at the 3:44 mark. That would be the last goal for the Mules, however.

Burke finished 16-of-28 on faceoffs and picked up 8 ground balls. Senior defensive middie Cole Draghi recorded his fourth career point with an assist on one of two goals by senior PJ Lombara.
