The Muhlenberg men's soccer team advanced to the ECAC championship game with a 2-0 win vs. Rutgers-Camden.
The Mules (9-7-2) will face the other Division III Rutgers school, Rutgers-Newark, for the championship next weekend. The Scarlet Raiders (14-4-4) reached the final by beating Penn State Behrend, 4-2, in their semifinal match.
Muhlenberg, seeking its second straight ECAC title, took an early lead against the Scarlet Raptors (9-9-2) and never looked back.
In the eighth minute, junior
Chris Richards took a pass in the box from classmate
Taylan Akdag and beat the goalie from straight on for his second goal of the tournament. Richards has 10 points in five career postseason games.
Akdag, who came into the ECAC Tournament with no assists on the season, recorded his third in two games when he set up freshman
Kevin Adams (pictured above) in the 22nd minute to make it 2-0. A long throw by junior
Tarin Morris was flicked by Akdag to Adams, who headed it in. Of Akdag's 10 career assists, half have come in the postseason.
Richards put another shot past the goalie in the second half, but a defender cleared it off the line.
Sophomore
Zach Matik made three saves to record his third shutout of the season.
