Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Advances to Semis

The Muhlenberg men's soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Tournament with a 3-2 win against Alvernia.

The Mules (8-7-2), who have now won five straight ECAC games, will play Rutgers-Camden, a 1-0 overtime winner against host Springfield, in the semis on Sunday, with the winner moving on to next weekend's championship match against either Rutgers-Newark or Penn State Behrend.

All five goals were scored in a wild second half after a scoreless first 45 in which Muhlenberg held a 13-4 advantage in shots.

Junior Chris Richards broke the ice just 2:09 after intermission after junior Taylan Akdag slipped him a ball in the box. Richards took a touch and beat the goalie for his 17th career goal.

The Golden Wolves (14-6) needed only 22 seconds to net their first goal and tie the score.

Akdag put Muhlenberg ahead for the second time by curling in a direct kick from about 30 yards out with 36:49 left to play. Again, Alvernia responded quickly, tying the game less than five minute later.

It remained 2-2 until the Mules netted the winner with 11:21 left off a build from the back off a goal kick. Sophomore goalie Zach Matik played the ball wide to freshman Evan Schlotterbeck, who passed it to Caleb Herring. The sophomore back dribbled to near midfield before playing it along the right sideline to junior Brandin Osborne, who beat a defender and carried into the box before laying it off to senior Noam Davidov. With a shot to the far post, Davidov (pictured above) beat the goalie for his first goal of the season.

Alvernia had three corner kicks in the remaining time and got a decent shot off of one of them, but it was well high and the Mules held on for the win.
