Two fourth-quarter goals lifted the 19th-ranked Haverford field hockey team to a 2-1 win over upset-minded Muhlenberg.
The Mules (4-7, 2-4) took the lead late in the first half off a penalty corner. A shot by senior
Maleah Hess was blocked and sent back out to the top of the circle, from where sophomore
Nicole RandazzaÂ
(pictured above, wearing 10) blasted in her first career goal.
That stood up through the rest of the half and the entire third quarter as the Muhlenberg defense did a tremendous job of keeping the Fords (11-2, 4-2) away from the cage. Haverford won nine penalty corners in the first three quarters but managed only three shots off of them.
The Fords finally scored off a corner five minutes into the final period and netted the go-ahead goal less than four minutes later.Â
Every regular-season meeting between Muhlenberg and Haverford since 2013 has been decided by one goal.Â
