The Muhlenberg men's soccer team scored midway through the first half and held on to defeat Elizabethtown, 1-0.

The lone goal came courtesy of junior Taylan Akdag, who delivered a blast from 25 yards out to the upper 90 in the 26th minute. The Blue Jay goalie made a dive to the right spot but was too late to stop the fast-moving shot.

The Mules (6-5-1) were all over the Blue Jays (8-3-1), who are ranked sixth in Region V, for the first 30 minutes of the game, taking the first 12 shots, but play evened up after that.

Both teams came close to scoring in the second half. Sophomore Zach Matik parried a shot over the crossbar in the 55th minute, and two Muhlenberg shots, one by Akdag and one by junior Chris Richards (pictured above) got past the goalie but were cleared off the line by Elizabethtown defenders.

Matik finished with three saves for his second shutout in as many career starts.
