The Muhlenberg softball team scored just one run in dropping a pair of games on its second day in Myrtle Beach.
A day after putting
21 runs on the scoreboard in two five-inning victories, the Mules (2-2) were kept in check by two pitchers from Otterbein and Wesley, falling 3-1 and 8-0, respectively.
The opening game was a crisp pitchers' duel for the first five innings. Sophomore
Cora Bridgers took a no-hitter into the sixth but lost it and the shutout when a two-out pop fly fell in between three Muhlenberg fielders. The Cardinals, who won the Ohio Athletic Conference title and played in the NCAA Tournament last year, added a two-run double two batters later.
Muhlenberg broke up the shutout in the seventh when sophomore
Kristin Oberg hit an RBI single after sophomore
Sarah Raab led off with a pinch-single, but the game ended with the tying runs on base.
Senior
Sarah Schubert had two of the Mules' eight hits.
Bridgers finished with a two-hitter and seven strikeouts.
Muhlenberg fell behind early against Wesley and never recovered. Schubert was responsible the Mules' lone hit, legging out an infield single to shortstop in the fifth.
