Sophomore
Mikaela McGarvey drained a career-high 30 points; however, the Muhlenberg women's basketball team fell to McDaniel 64-58 on Senior Day.
Â
With a game in hand, the Mules (10-11, 8-8) sit in a tie in the loss column with Swarthmore for the fifth and final spot in the Centennial Conference postseason. The Mules and Garnet split their meetings this season, each team winning at home. The pair sit one loss back of Dickinson – a 78-49 winner of Ursinus today – and one loss ahead of Franklin & Marshall – a 62-57 winner over Swarthmore today.
Â
McGarvey single handedly outscored the Green Terror (8-12, 5-11) 14-7 over a 4:55 span of the second quarter to give the Mules a 30-27 lead at the break; she finished the half with 19 points. Neither team would lead by more than four until a pair of free throws gave McDaniel its final six-point margin with three seconds to go.
Â
The Green Terror held a four-point lead with 3:30 on the fourth-quarter clock before a McGarvey layup-and-one followed by a pair of free throws by sophomore
Amanda Gorski gave Muhlenberg its final point of the night and a 58-57 lead. After corralling an offensive rebound off a missed three on the ensuing possession, McDaniel laid in the go-ahead bucket with 2:18 to go before converting 4-of-9 free throws down the stretch.
Â
McGarvey becomes the first Mule player to reach 30 points four years to the day since
Brandi Vallely dropped 39 at Dickinson. Her six three-pointers are the most in a game since
Rachel Plotke netted seven against Ursinus in 2018.
Â
Senior
Emily O'Mahoney led the way on the glass with a career-best nine rebounds.
Â
Prior to the game, Muhlenberg recognized its six seniors – O'Mahoney,
Emilie Benton,
Maggie Chau,
Caroline Hogg,
