Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Rally Falls Short

The Muhlenberg women's basketball team rallied from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit but came up a point short and fell at Franklin & Marshall, 62-61.

The loss dropped the Mules (10-13, 8-10) a game behind both Swarthmore and F&M (11-12, 9-9) for the fifth and final Centennial Conference playoff spot with one week remaining in the regular season.

Sophomore Mikaela McGarvey (pictured above) led Muhlenberg in scoring for the fourth straight game, finishing with 17 points. Three other Mules scored in double figures: Sophomore Amanda Gorski tied her career high with 12 points, while sophomores Tara Szawaluk and Margaux Eripret netted 10 apiece.

The game was tied at halftime, and neither team led by more than four points in the third quarter until the Diplomats hit a buzzer-beating three at the end of the period, then scored the first six points of the fourth to open up a 57-46 advantage.

The Mules held F&M to one field goal over the final 5:58 to creep back into the game. Four points from Eripret and two from senior Emily O'Mahoney brought Muhlenberg to within two, at 61-59, in the last minute.

A forced turnover at the other end gave the Mules three chances to tie the game, but they missed two shots and committed a turnover. The Diplomats made a free throw for their final point, and a Muhlenberg layup with 1.2 ticks left accounted for the final score.
