Men's Basketball Completes Sweep

The Muhlenberg men's basketball team completed a season sweep of Washington College with a 79-73 home win.

The Mules (12-4, 5-4) matched their win total from all of last year and moved into sole possession of fourth place in the Centennial Conference standings at the midway point of the CC season. They are one game ahead of Gettysburg, which visits Memorial Hall on Saturday.

Sophomore Dan Gaines, the reigning CC player of the week, led Muhlenberg in scoring with 15 points. Senior Matt Gnias (13) and sophomores Nate Henty Brown (12), Dallas Hoffman (11) and Noah Watson (10) also scored in double figures, with freshman Justin Allen adding nine points.

Muhlenberg led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but the Shoremen (5-11, 3-6) rallied to tie the game at 45 six minutes into the second half, then took a 47-46 lead - their first since 2-0 - at the 11:42 mark.

The Mules responded with an 8-0 run, bookended by three-point plays from Allen and Gnias.

Washington closed to within two points with 5:29 to play, but Muhlenberg did not allow another field goal for almost three minutes, extending its lead back to eight on a three by Hoffman (pictured above) with 3:09 remaining.

Junior Michael Morreale put the exclamation point on the win with a breakaway dunk in the last minute and a half.

Gaines added five assists without a turnover to his 15 points. Junior Spencer Duke pulled down seven rebounds.
