Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Runs Away Late

The Muhlenberg men's basketball team shot .500 from the field and held Gettysburg to just one field goal down the stretch to run away with a 71-55 win over the Bullets.

The win puts the Mules in sole possession of fourth place in the Centennial Conference standings just past the halfway point of CC competition. Muhlenberg sits two games ahead of Gettysburg, Ursinus and Washington College and one game back of Haverford.

Sophomore Dallas Hoffman hit one of his three second-half threes at the 9:11 mark, breaking a 51-51 tie and sparking a game-ending 20-4 run. Hoffman netted 13 points during the run, including a three with 1:28 to go to open the Mules' largest lead of the game at 69-53.

As a team, Muhlenberg (13-4, 6-4) shot 8-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-9 from distance down the stretch. They complemented their offense with stout defense, holding the Bullets (10-7, 4-6 CC) to just 1-of-11 shooting, including 0-for-7 from beyond the arc. Gettysburg's last field goal came with 8:51 to go.

For the second game in a row, the Mules saw five players reach double figures with junior Michael Morreale (11), senior Matt Gnias (10), sophomore Nate Henty Brown (10) and sophomore Dan Gaines (10) joining Hoffman. Those five players combined to shoot .512 on the night, leading the team to a .463 overall shooting effort.

Muhlenberg never trailed by more than five, and that came on a game-opening Gettysburg run in which the Mules responded to take a six-point lead at 15-9 midway through the first half before leading, 38-30, at the break.

It took Gettysburg nearly four minutes of second-half action to eliminate the Mule advantage to tie the game at 42. The teams exchanged small leads before the game was tied again at 48 and 51.
