Game Recap: Volleyball |

Volleyball Splits Tri-Match

The Muhlenberg volleyball team split a pair of home matches with a sweep of Dickinson and a five-set setback to DeSales.

Entering the day needing just 13 kills to reach 1,000 for her career, senior Maggie Enestvedt totaled 29 to led the Mules' offense. She is the sixth player in program history to eclipse the 1,000 kill milestone.

After notching the first kill of the match, senior Tara Register went on to serve the next eight points, including an ace, to help Muhlenberg (6-9, 2-1) take early control against Dickinson. The Mules went on to take the first set handily, 25-12.

The Mules led by as many as four in the second set, before finding themselves down two late following a four-point run by the Red Devils (8-6, 1-2). The run forced Muhlenberg into a timeout, out of which it went on to score six of the set's final eight points capped by a block by the duo of Enestvedt and junior Alycia Long.

The Mules led for much of the third set, bending but not breaking to Dickinson runs. The visitors managed to tie the set a few times in the latter portion, however the difference came at 23-23 when an Enestvedt kill set up match point before a Dickinson error clinched the win.

Muhlenberg hit over .300 in both the first (.304) and third (.325) sets. Individually, Long and Register enjoyed healthy hitting efforts at .500 and .444, respectively.

After dropping the first set to DeSales (7-9), Muhlenberg went on to claim the next two with the help of timely timeouts. The Mules called timeout when trailing by one in both sets, only to come out of those time outs and score the remaining four and three points of the respective sets.

The Bulldogs bounced back to take the fourth set by six points, before sealing the match with a 15-11 win in the fifth set.

Three different Mules reached double digits in two different stat categories in the match. Enestvedt totaled season highs in both kills (19) and digs (12), freshman Emma Eglinton notched season highs in assists (45) and digs (27) and Register added 11 kills and 17 digs to go with a season-high four blocks.

On the day, Long led the way at the net with a dozen block assists. Defensively, three different Mules racked up 20-plus digs, led by junior Rebecca Shear with 41.
